Biography

Richard was born in South Africa and qualified with a Dipl. in Architecture. He and his wife and 2 children emigrated to Canada in 1975.
*

Richard is a signature member of the Toronto Watercolour Society (TWS) since its inception in 1985. He has won a number of awards in TWS juried shows, including "Best in Show" in 2004 and the Curry's/Winsor Newton Award in the 2008 CSPWC (Canadian Society of
Painters in Water Colour) "Open Waters" exhibition.

His training in South Africa as an architect prepared him for and eventually led him into watercolour painting, which he has enjoyed since he started in 1983.

His watercolours are transparent, using design, large shapes and vibrant colour combinations to help express his loose but controlled style. This allows for much freedom of interpretation of subject matter.
His paintings have been sold to patrons in Canada, USA, Ireland, Belize, Israel, England, and South Africa.
